Which metal is best for my product? We often get this question at Rapidset Metal Buildings. Which metal best suits your product depends on the properties of the product and the purpose of use. There are different types of metal, each with their own unique properties. Think of steel, aluminum and stainless steel. We are happy to tell you for which specific applications these metals are suitable, so that you know what to look for when making a choice for your product.
Strong steel
Steel is one of the most popular materials. It is strong, durable and relatively cheap. In addition, steel is available in various sizes and thicknesses and is easy to weld. So you can make different products with it. But steel also has disadvantages. This makes it vulnerable to rust and corrosion. Steel must therefore be well protected against moisture and other environmental influences. You can do this, or have it done, by means of a good chemical pre-treatment with zinc phosphates and a protective powder coating.
Light aluminum
You can also choose to use aluminum for your product. Aluminum is light and flexible. Also, it is reasonable to machine and has a long service life. Unlike steel, aluminum is resistant to corrosion. But it is more expensive than steel and less strong. In addition, lasering and welding aluminum is a lot more difficult than steel or stainless steel.
Corrosion resistant stainless steel
Finally, you can use stainless steel for your product. Like aluminum, stainless steel is corrosion resistant. And just like steel, you can easily work this material. Stainless steel has an additional advantage, as it is highly resistant to heat and high pressure. Are there applications for your product that require these properties?
