10 secret tips for extra storage space!
Storage space is necessary to keep our homes in order. But have you also thought about how these storage spaces fit into your interior? This question is just as essential as the question of what you are going to store and how you can do it as effectively as possible. How your storage space can contribute positively to your interior design? You can read that here!
1. Build a low bench/cupboard
A long, low cabinet running the length of the living room can be very effective for hiding things. Here this cabinet was used as a TV cabinet. All cables and any other utensils can be plugged into the cupboard, keeping the living room looking clean and tidy. People visiting? Put the television aside, throw some pillows on it and you immediately have a seat or five more!
2. Think outside the kitchen
We are all familiar with the innovative storage solutions for our kitchen such as pantries, blinds, and all kinds of drawers. But kitchen design can also affect the general interior of a large room. In this narrow house, the whole design emphasizes the linear nature of the house, and the kitchen storage contributes to this. A long cooking surface extends the kitchen into the dining room. The wall cupboard thus becomes a mix of food storage in the kitchen, and a book and DVD rack on the other side.
3. Demarcate zones
We know the cooking island that shields the kitchen from the living room in an open space. Here a wardrobe does the same thing, but with the bedroom and bathroom!
4. Make it a box
Finding space for a wardrobe in a bedroom is not always easy, with windows and doors taking up a lot of space. Here, the walnut wardrobes surround the window. Looks good, and you get a built-in bench with fantastic views too!
5. A visual gem in the bathroom
Jars, bottles, tubes … the average bathroom sometimes dares to look messy. A good storage method is therefore useful. Design it with everything you want to store in the back of your mind. In this example, the veneered wood cabinet does, even more, adding warmth to soften the harsh gray and white of the bathroom.
6. Also think of the terrace and the garden
Providing metal storage building space on a sofa gives both a lot of storage space and cozy and human touch to your terrace! You can open them by lifting the seats like a suitcase, or through doors or drawers at the front. Super handy for storing cushions, toys, etc. And the wooden and metal buildings structure here blends in perfectly with the concrete patio. Again: keep in mind what you want to store and look for the most effective solution.
7. Use the space under the stairs
Otherwise, it is just wasted space, so use them to store things in a structured and tidy way! For example, form a series of cupboards and drawers that you can open at the side.
8. Use level differences
If the ceiling is high enough, think about height. Examples like this bed on a platform not only give a lot more closet and sliding space but also new geography to the interior, with different views of the room from different places.
9. Make way for a playful play area
Parents know: having children can very quickly turn clean, calm rooms into chaotic spaces with large pieces of brightly colored toys that cannot be properly stored anywhere. Creating a defined play area by strategically placing a playful but well-organized storage cabinet can already be a fun and effective solution!
10. Put that fitness equipment away
Even big children sometimes have large toys, just think of such huge fitness equipment that some of us have at home. This rowing machine was often in the way until a storage pit was built under the floor. With three trapdoors you can move the device upwards (or better: yourself down). After your workout, you just close the trapdoors, and you don’t have to think about it again!
